INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound ground sirloin

  • 1 cup finely diced onion

  • 1 can fire-roasted diced tomatoes undrained, 14.5 ounces

  • 2/3 cup barbecue sauce

  • 1 cup tablespoon water + 1 tablespoon water, divided

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 teaspoons four

  • 1 tablespoon butter melted

  • 4 hamburger buns split

  • 4 ounces smoked Cheddar cheese thinly sliced

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large nonstick skillet, cook beef and onion over medium-high heat for 7 minutes, breaking up beef as it browns. Drain beef mixture on paper towels, if necessary, and return to pan. Stir in tomatoes, barbecue sauce, 1 cup water, and salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 8 minutes.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together four and 1 tablespoon water. Add four mixture to beef mixture and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat.

  3. Heat a griddle pan or large skillet over medium-high heat. Spread melted butter over cut sides of buns. Place buns, cut sides down, on griddle and heat until lightly toasted.

  4. Place bottom halves of buns on plate and top with beef mixture and cheese. Replace bun tops. Garnish with onion slices, if desired.
