Chocalatey Chilli

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground pork

  • 2 cans pinto beans rinsed and drained, 15 ounces each

  • 1 jar chipotle salsa 16 ounces

  • 1 1/4 cups red wine such as Merlot

  • 1 cup frozen chopped onions

  • 1 can diced mild green chiles 4 ounces

  • 1 packet chipotle taco seasoning mix 1.25 ounces

  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste

  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder plus more for sprinkling

  • 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Sour cream and chopped scallions for serving (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground pork over high heat until browned, stirring to break up clumps. Drain off fat.

  2. In a 4- to 5-quart slow cooker, stir together cooked pork, beans, salsa, wine, onions, chiles, taco seasoning mix, tomato paste, cocoa powder, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours.

  4. If desired, serve with sour cream, scallions, and a sprinkling of cocoa powder.
