Cocoa Cherries

Makes: 4 servings

  • 1 cup half-and-half

  • 3⁄4 cup sugar

  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter

  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 bags (16 ounces each) frozen cherries

  • 1 cup coffee liqueur

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • Vanilla bean ice cream

  • Chocolate wafer cookies




In a 4-quart slow cooker, stir together half-and-half, sugar, butter, and cocoa powder. Cover and cook on LOW for 1 hour.

Stir in cherries, liqueur, vanilla extract, and cornstarch. Cook, uncovered, on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours or until cherries are warm and mixture is thickened.

Serve cherry mixture warm over ice cream with chocolate wafer cookies.
