Haute Halloween
Bubble, bubble, banish trouble—scare up treats on the double. I’ll show you how! Blacken the mood by costuming your table in a tonal check black tablecloth and orange runner, teamed with hanging flag banners in striped and checkerboard patterns used as place mats. Make your party a graveyard smash with a Monster Mash CD. Greet guests with a kiss—a Vampire Kiss Martini, that is. Create killer treats by securing Halloween candle buckets into a “pick one” pyramid and tying individual portions of candy into beribboned bundles that masquerade as the centerpiece. Set a wonderfully wicked table with bats and cats and witches, then transform a spooky black raven into a serving tray for scary but delicious treats. This party is such a scream, you might want to think of hosting one every year.
Accent Pieces
Stuffed with holiday lights, resin pumpkins cast an eerie glow to the entry. Spook up your pantry with huge black spiderwebs and a recipe box covered with black and orange fabric, embellished with scrapbooking decals.
Place Settings: Set a wicked table with dishes bearing bats and cats and witches—oh, my!—layered on orange napkins folded across black chargers.
Fashion: Be a diva like Streisand or Liza with a Z. Don a feathered headdress and shimmy like Cher—or pretend you’re a princess of pop like Madonna. I took a turn as all four and had a ball playing dress up—check out those most wicked wigs!
Centerpiece
Make this killer table illuminate by stacking candle buckets into a pyramid. For accent pieces, glue a piece of crafts foam into the bottom of a bucket. Slide Gummy Worms, Trolli®, soft candies, and Lifesaver® eyeballs onto bent metal skewers and anchor them in the foam. Fill each box with candy to hide the foam.
Favors
Bundles of candy masquerade as place cards. Center a handful of candy on a sheet of cellophane and tie the cellophane with a black-and-white striped ribbon. Use a cookie cutter to trace a bat shape onto black paper, cut it out, and print the guest’s name in gold. Hole punch the top and thread the ribbon through.
Food and Drinks
Conjure up a masterful menu. Stir up some truly gruesome goodies—Bloodshot Eyecakes and Ghoulish Pies are a scream as haute cuisine. Make your party a graveyard smash with a Monster Mash CD. Greet guests with a kiss—a Vampire Kiss Martini, that is.
